REVISIONS TO AWBB BY-LAWS

The membership desires to revise the AWBB by-laws as discussed at our February 1, 2010 meeting.  Attached are "marked up" and "clean" versions of the proposed changes to the by-laws.  The membership will vote on April 5, 2010 on this language to replace the existing language in the by-laws.

THE PROPOSED CHANGES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

 
 

Ø      NUMEROUS GRAMMATICAL AND OTHER CHANGES THAT CAN BE CHARACTERIZED AS “CLEAN-UPS” FROM THE PREVIOUS VERSION (REPRESENTED BY THE YELLOW HIGHLIGHTED TEXT), INCLUDING:

 

o       ELIMINATION OF THE “FINANCE COMMITTEE” AND ALL REFERENCES TO THIS COMMITTEE

o       RENAMING OF THE AWBB SCHOLARSHIP

REVISION TO BY-LAWS: SCHOLARSHIPS

The membership desires to revise the AWBB by-laws with respect to scholarships as discussed at our February 1, 2010 meeting.  Based on the recommendation of the Scholarship committee and as revised by the membership at our February 1st meeting, the membership will vote on March 1, 2010 on the following language to replace the existing language in the by-laws:

The Scholarships committee consists of three (3) members for the purpose of administering the AW Band Booster scholarship program.  There shall be three (3) non-renewable scholarships each in the amount of $ 750 awarded annually to graduating seniors who meet all of the following eligibility criteria:  (1) enrolled in band at the time of the application, (2) continuously participated in the band program from the beginning of their freshman year, and (3) will be attending a two or four year college or university.  One (1) of the three (3) scholarships shall be awarded placing an emphasis on the applicant’s musical achievements.  The committee is responsible for:  preparing and distributing the scholarship application, establishing appropriate submittal deadlines, collecting completed applications and forwarding them to the “selection committee”, and ensuring that the appropriate awards are made to the selected graduating seniors.  The scholarship recipients shall be chosen from the applicants by a “selection committee” appointed by the Scholarship Committee.  The “selection committee” is made up of five (5) members or former members who meet the following criteria:  (1) not related by blood or marriage to a graduating senior band member and (2) has no child in high school in the year that they participate as a Selection Committee member.  The “selection committee” is responsible to review the submitted applications and make selections based on the rubric established by the Scholarships committee.  The dollar amount of the scholarships may be increased or decreased by the membership if financial conditions warrant.
