OMEA Large Group Adjudicated Event

 

Large Group AE will be held on March 12 at Sylvania Southview High School.  Performance times are 5:00pm for the Concert Band and 8:20pm for the Symphonic Band.  Both performances are open to the public and will occur in the auditorium at Southview.

Pep Band

 

Thanks to everyone who participated in the last pep band basketball game.  We will also be playing for a United Way Event at the Lucas County Arena on March 18.  More information will be available soon. Please sign up on the band room door if you are planning to attend.

 

Booster Meeting

 

The next Booster Meeting will be on March 1 at 6:30pm in the High School Band Room. Refreshments will be served before the meeting.  We have made a special effort to invite Junior High and Middle School Band Parents.  We hope to see you there.

 

High School Winter Concert

 

The Winter Concert will be on Tuesday, March 2 at 7:00pm in the High School Auditorium.  It will include performances by the Jazz, Concert, and Symphonic Bands.  Seniors should arrive at 6:00pm in their Senior Band T-Shirts for a picture to be used at the Band Banquet.  After the concert we will be taking a formal picture for the yearbook.

Trip deposits will continue to be accepted on a space available basis.  As of now, there are several more seats available for band fans who would like to accompany the band.  Please put the deposits in the band booster lock box.

The Junior High Winter Concert will be on February 23rd at 7:00pm in the High School Auditorium.  It will feature the 7th and 8th Grade Bands as well as a combined number.  Please come and support our Junior High Musicians.

Honors Band

 

This past weekend, 5 High School Students and 3 Junior High Students participated in the OMEA District I Honors Band.  They presented a concert at the Stranahan Auditorium on Sunday.  Congratulation on a great performance.

Thanks to everyone who participated in pep band last Saturday for the Hockey Game.  44 students traveled to Tam O Shanter with Mr. Giffin for the game.

We received confirmation this past week that the band will be marching in the “Celebrate A Dream Come True” pre-parade at the Magic Kingdom on Wednesday, November 24, 2010.  This is the performance we requested so our itinerary should be fairly accurate as it is.

Solo and Ensemble

 

Congratulations to the students who participated in the OMEA District I Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Event held last Saturday.  The students participated in 55 events and earned 37 Superior (I), 15 Excellent (II), and 3 Good (III) ratings.  Thanks to the students for their hard work and dedication.

 

Florida Trip

 

The deposit to secure a spot for the Florida Trip will be due on January 29.  Parents who are interested in chaperoning the trip should fill out a chaperone application and return it to Mr. Young by January 25.  Chaperone applications and the itinerary are available.

Pep Band

 

Students should be picked up at 9:15 after pep band.  Mr. Young must stay at the school until everyone leaves and wait times have continued to get longer.  Thus far, we have not had a game that has lasted past 9:15.  Some of the students wait until after the game to call for a ride.  Please do not wait for a call, but rather pick your son or daughter up at 9:15.  

 

Solo and Ensemble

 

Solo and Ensemble will be this Saturday at Perrysburg High School.  Students can pick up a packet of information including performance times at school.  Please have your son or daughter at Perrysburg at least one hour ahead of their performance time.  Please remember that no picture taking is allowed at contest and could result in disqualification of our school.

 

Florida Trip

Solo and Ensemble
Please continue to work on your pieces for solo and ensemble.  It will be here quicker than you think.  The date is January 23rd at Perrysburg High School.  If we do not know the name of your solo, please get it in ASAP.  Extra help will be available over the break.  Let us know if you can come in during break.

Whitehouse Fire Department Breakfast
Thanks to the Jazz Band members who played at the Fire Department Breakfast.  I heard several good comments about the performance and we had some good food. 

Hockey Game
We had 75 people who participated in Pep Band at the Hockey Game.  That is the largest number of participants so far this year.  Let's keep it up.  The crowd and team were very appreciative of our attendance on Friday.  Thanks for your dedication.  The next event is a Boys' Basketball Game on December 22nd and another Hockey Game on January 1st at the Lucas County Arena.  I'll have more details about the next Hockey Game soon.  (It will include open skating and a lunch stop.)

Honors Band Recordings
Anyone who is planning to audition for the OMEA Honors Band should make a recording before Winter Break.  Audition music and applications are available in class.

Holiday Concert
The Annual Holiday Concert will be held this Tuesday at 7:00pm in the High School Auditorium.  The concert will include performances by the 7th Grade, 8th Grade, Concert, Symphonic, and Jazz Bands. Students should arrive at 6:15 to get ready.  Please make sure that all dresses and pants are hemmed to the correct length.  We hope to see many people in the audience.

Solo and Ensemble
We have begun to start picking out pieces for solo and ensemble events.  All events need to be finalized before Christmas.  This year it will be held at Perrysburg on January 23rd. 

Lake Orion Trip
Thanks to the band and chaperones for a great trip.  We heard many positive comments about the performance on Saturday night.  I hope everyone has had some time to rest after our busy trip schedule.

Whitehouse Fire Department Breakfast
The Jazz Band will perform on Sunday, December 13th at the Whitehouse Fire Department.  Students should arrive at the High School at 9:45. Performances will be at 10:30 and 11:30am.  Students will be provided breakfast between the performances.

Lake Orion Trip
Please remember to bring in your $9.00 payment for the University of Michigan Concert.  There will be two practices for the trip this week on Tuesday and Thursday from 3-3:45pm.  On Friday we will pack uniforms and instruments for the trip on Saturday.  Please remember to bring your uniform parts to school on Friday.

Barnes and Noble
Thanks to everyone who participated in the Barnes and Noble Fundraiser.  A special thanks to students and parents who worked the gift wrapping table and to the students who participated in the ensemble that played on Saturday.

Solo and Ensemble
This year solo and ensemble is on January 23rd.  Because it is early, all events need to be entered into the computer before winter break.  We will begin to pick out solo and ensemble pieces on Monday during class.  Soloists can also stay after school on Monday for some extra help in picking out their pieces.

Jazz Band Practice
Jazz band will meet after school on Monday from 3-4:00pm to pick out pieces for the Holiday Concert. Please stay if at all possible to read through some new charts.  Rehearsals will normally occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school.

Pep Band
Pep Band will begin on November 28th.  There are 13 performances this year including Boy's Basketball, Girl's Basketball, Hockey, and BGSU Women's Basketball Games.  All students are welcome to attend any performances they wish to attend.  In order to receive an award for Pep Band, a student must attend 9 performances throughout the season.  Sign up sheets will be posted on the band room door for each performance.

Lake Orion Trip
Plans are progressing for our trip to Michigan.  By this point students should have signed up for a room, their bus, and a group for bowling.  We have decided to include a trip to the University of Michigan for their annual Marching Band Concert in Crisler Arena.  This concert will include many of the pieces that were played by the band throughout their season.  We are able to get a discount for the group at $9 per person.  Students can begin bringing in their money for the concert at their earliest convenience.
