
The 23rd annual Showcase of Bands will begin at 7pm on October 3rd at Schaller Memorial Stadium on the Anthony Wayne campus, 5967 Finzel Road, Whitehouse, Ohio.
The 2009 Showcase of Bands will feature some of the area’s top high school bands, including our own Anthony Wayne Marching Generals and Junior Marching Generals. Each band performs a "halftime" show in full uniform with full auxiliary. The evening culminates with all of the bands on the field for the Massed Band.
The guest high school bands are: Eastwood, Elmwood, Archbold, St. John's Jesuit, and Tinora. The guest college band is Adrian College.
We hare happy to have Tony Geftos of 13abc News return as our guest announcer. The guest conductor will be Fred Dais, past director of the 555th Air National Guard band.
Please join us for an evening that promises to be entertaining and enjoyable as we welcome many talented bands to our school. We hope to see you there!

About guest conductor, Fred Dais
Attended Monclova Elementary and graduated from Anthony Wayne High School in 1960. Earned an B.Ed., M.Ed., and Ed.S. from the University of Toledo. Served as a Teacher, Junior and Senior High School Principal and Director of Management Serves for Springfield Schools, Holland, Ohio for 33 years. From 1997 until retirement in 2008 was Director of Field Experiences at Carson-Newman College, Jefferson City, Tennessee. Enlisted in the Ohio Air National Guard while a senior at AW and served as a clarinetist and then Commander of the 555th Air Force Band, OANG until 1982. Retired from the 180th TAC Fighter Group, OANG in 1986 as a LTC. Presently working part-time at both Owen's Community College and the University of Toledo while directing the Genoa American Legion Band and playing clarinet in the Polish-American Concert Band and the University of Toledo Community Band.

The Anthony Wayne High School Marching Generals proudly represent their school, community, and region through a variety of school, civic, and special appearances annually. Past performances have included the Orange, Citrus, and Cotton Bowl Parades, the Ontario and Chicago Christmas Parades and the Indianapolis 500 Festival Parade. In 2007 the band had the privilege of marching in the London New Year's Day Parade. They have also performed at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
This year the Marching Generals can be seen at the Whitehouse Cherryfest Parade, Monclova Homecoming Parade, Roche de Boeuf Parade in Waterville, and the Bowling Green Holiday Parade.
Director: Roy Young. Roy Young is in his twelfth year of teaching and second year in the Anthony Wayne Local School District. Prior to Anthony Wayne, he taught at Cardinal Stritch High School and in the Springfield Local Schools. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Bowling Green State University and holds a Master of Music Education degree from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois. Roy is a member of the Ohio Music Education Association, National Band Association, and the International Tuba Euphonium Association. He is currently serving as Immediate Past President for OMEA District I.
Assistants: Percussion Instructor DeLee Beadle, Majorette Advisor Deb Myers.
This is the Junior Marching Generals' eighth appearance in the Showcase of Bands. Both the Seventh and Eighth Grade Bands meet everyday in separate periods. The bands perform at the Annual Showcase of Bands, a home football game, the holiday concert, and a Winter concert. Each year, many of the musicians participate in the Ohio Music Education Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Event. Both the 7th and 8th Grade Bands participate annually in the Ohio Music Education Association District I Large Group Adjudicated Event.

The Adrian College Bulldog Marching Band is in its third year of existence. It is a part of a comprehensive college music department that includes degrees in music performance and education, instrumental and vocal. Adrian College offers a generous scholarship for non-music majors as well. For the second year in a row. US News and World Report has awarded Adrian College #1 in the "Up and Coming" category for baccalaureate colleges in the Midwest. Come and visit!
Director: Dr. Marty Marks. Dr. Marty Marks began teaching at Adrian College in 2004 after teaching high school and college bands for 20 years in Oklahoma. Since he began at Adrian College, the instrumental music department has grown more than 400 percent . In addition to directing the marching band, Dr. Marks directs both concert bands, both jazz ensembles, and coordinates the basketball and hockey pep bands. His is also the bandmaster for the 338th Army Reserve Band of Columbus, Ohio – the largest army reserve band in the United States. Dr. Marks is married to Melissa Marks, who teaches band and choir in Onsted, Michigan.

The Archbold High School "Blue Streak" Marching Band from Archbold, Ohio, represents virtually every aspect of the academic and athletic offerings at our high school.
There will be a variety of musical selections for your halftime entertainment this season. The main goal of the band is to experience as many styles as possible so that the students receive a well-rounded musical education while achieving a high level of performing skills. The band utilizes a system of student leadership where the more experienced students do much of the teaching to the younger members. The Field Commanders (Hope Harvey, Kate Friesen and Kelsey Grieser) assume many important roles and lead the band in its performances.
Director: Tim Booth. Tim Booth is in his 8th year as Director of Bands at Archbold and 15th over all.
Assistant Director: Donovan Ziegler. Donovan Ziegler is in his first year as Percussion Instructor and is a 2000 graduate of AHS.

The Eastwood High School Eagle Marching Band is proud to represent their home communities of Stony Ridge, Scotch Ridge, Lemoyne, Dowling, Dunbridge, New Rochester, Luckey and Pemberville. A week of band camp is spent at 4H Camp Palmer on Harrison Lake in Fayette, OH. The band performs at over 35 parades, half-time shows, festivals, concerts, community and school events each year. The Eagles are the annual host band of the Pemberville Free Fair Grand Parade and Kiddie Parade, and attend the Fireman's Convention Parade (Class B, 2nd place 2009), Cedar Point, Swanton Corn Festival Parade, Oak Harbor Apple Festival Parade (Mayor’s Award 2006 and 2008) and Bowling Green Holiday Parade performances annually. Eastwood has been accepted to perform at Disney World in April of 2010. In 2008, the band traveled to New York to work with Phantom of the Opera conductor Timothy Stella.
The Eastwood Band prides itself on a strong leadership program, with student leaders attending various leadership workshops, including Fred J. Miller Clinics, Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser and VanderCook College of Music's "Seven Steps to a Better Band" Workshop in Chicago, Illinois. Students are directly involved in recruitment through joint activities with the 8th grade band. An Alumni Band Night is hosted biannually.
The Marching Eagles perform four half-time shows, a full pre-game show, and a myriad of stand tunes throughout the season. The season culminates with an indoor Marching Band Pops Concert. This year's Eagle Marching Band is comprised of 59 winds, 14 percussion, 5 color guard, 4 twirlers and 2 field commanders for a total of 84 members.At the Showcase of Bands, they will perform their second show of the season. The Soundtrack Show consists of Gonna Fly Now, The Incredibles, and The Mask of Zorro.
Director: Brian Myers. Mr. Myers in in his 12th year of teaching instrumental music. After 1 year in Antwerp, OH, he came to Eastwood as Assistant Director, and has been Director of Bands since 2002. He team teaches 6th, 7th, 8th and high school bands and high school music theory. While at Eastwood, he created AP band and theory curriculums, HS Jazz Band, a student leadership program, and began taking middle school bands to OMEA Large Group Adjudicated Events. He is a co-founder of the Eastwood High School Tri-M Music Honor Society Chapter #5458.
Mr. Myers earned a Bachelor of Music with University Honors from BGSU in 1997 and a Master of Music Education from VanderCook College of Music, Chicago, IL, in 2002. He is active in the Ohio Music Education Association, having served as chair for High School Solo & Ensemble and District President. Mr. Myers is an OMEA Adjudicator and the OMEA State Tri-M Advisor.
Assistant Director(s): Matt Safford. Mr. Safford is in his eighth year of teaching at Eastwood Local Schools, but his eleventh year of teaching overall. Matt taught general music in Wellville, Ohio for a year and then went to Lisbon Exempted Village Schools where he was the director of bands. Mr. Safford is a 1999 graduate of Bowling Green State University and has been playing piano for the past 28 years. He has served as a church musician and accompanist for various ensembles throughout Northeastern Ohio.

The Elmwood Marching Royal Pride proudly represents the Elmwood Local School District, located in Bloomdale, OH. The band actively participates in parades and performances in the communities of Bloomdale, Jerry City, Wayne, Pemberville and Bowling Green.
Director: Justin Brinkman. Mr. Justin Brinkman has been the Director of the Elmwood Marching Royal Pride since 2006. He is a graduate of Bowling Green State University, with a degree in music education. Also, he has been a member of the 555th Ohio Air National Guard Band of the Great Lakes since 2001.
Assistant Directors: Josh Barringer, Assistant; Besty Earl, Visual Ensemble Instructor; Adam Luthy, Percussion; Jason Luthy, Assistant.

The St. John’s Jesuit Marching Titans are from Toledo, Ohio. We played at the halftime show of the ’09 Outback Bowl in Tampa, Florida. Along with participation in tonight's festival, we will also be participating in the UT Band Day, Toledo Holiday Parade and many other venues.
Director: Xavier Smith. From Dudley, NC. Choir Director for 11 years at Toledo Public Schools and Band Director for 4 yrs. Toledo Public Schools. Graduate of Bowling Green State University. Currently serves as the Director of Instrumental Music at St. Johns Jesuit High School, and teaches sax, flute and clarinet in the Toledo area.

The Marching "Ram" Band is from Tinora High School in Defiance, Ohio. We are called the ram band because our school mascot is the Ram. Last year, the band performed at Disneyland in L.A. California. In addition to our C.A. trip, the band performs at the Henry Co. and Defiance Co. fairs as well as the Defiance Halloween Parade.
This year, the band is performing music from the band Chicago. The songs are: Saturday in the Park, 25 or 6 to 4, and Does Anybody Really Know What Time it is?
Director: Joe Lewis. I am a graduate of Northwestern High School Class of 2000 and a graduate of The Ohio State University Class of 2006 where I received by degrees in music education and bass trombone performance. While at Ohio State I spent 5 years in the marching band as well as other university ensembles. Since graduation I have been teaching band 5-12 grade at Tinora.
